Hi There, I was looking at that info on how to use templates (http://www.formidablepro2pdf.com/first-time-template-use/) but wasn’t able to make use of the information. Can you provide some more detailed info on how templates work?

I have 2 large forms – they are identical, with the exception that one of them has an extra page that supports images. Since the field map took me so long to create, I’d like to be able to use the field map for one, duplicate it, and use it with the other pdf form (minus the images) – I’ve found that when I duplicate a field map, I lose all the mappings to the PDF fields as soon as I upload a new PDF form, even when all the field names in the pdf are the same. So hoping templates would be a solution to this. I fiddled with exporting in the templates tab then updating the ID, name and pdf file name in the exported json file. I then imported it back into the templates tab hoping I would find a new field map available….but there wasn’t one.

Additionally, Where can I find the field map IDs? I understand each field map layout has it’s own ID.

    Thanks!!

Duplicating the Field Map Layout is the correct way to accomplish desired result. After duplicating the layout and uploading the new PDF form – with the same PDF form field names – your layout should stay mapped and you should not lose mappings except the “missing” pdf fields.

The template function was not designed to create duplicates as it will override previously saved layouts with the same name.

Layout ID’s can be found in the resulting shortcode after selecting the layout from the Field Map to use: dropdown located in the plugin’s export tab.

We are happy to login and check the “duplicate” layout function if you complete this form.

Ok, I think where I end up running into the problem is because I also need to not just duplicate the field map and change the associated acrobat file, I also need to change the associated formidable form. Just like there’s 2 versions of the PDF, I’ve got two versions of the same formidable form – I can’t seem to figure out how to make one Formidable form generate either the PDF that supports images, or the PDF that doesn’t based on whether or not the user uploaded any images….The PDF is getting sent to a recipient over email…I really need to figure out how to do this dynamic LayoutIDs stuff I think…but that’s something open under another forum post here. 🙂

    Thanks!

You should just have one formidable form collecting data, the dynamic layoutID is relatively simple to implement – especially since we are at your service!

FYI: Today’s release of the plugin offers an “Automated Layout Creation” option. So if you name your Formidable Form keys the same as your PDF field name, the plugin will create the map for you…

Thank YOU! Yours was the best suggestion since the plugin was released! We’ve already used it on current projects, and it works great! Let us know if you see anything that needs to be changed, or any other suggestions to make the plugin better, easier, or faster to use.
