Hello, I have spent over a day working on this issue so far, but I have a 3 page form which takes a long time to submit, and if I fill out more than 3 signature boxes, takes long enough to submit that it times out and I receive the following error in the logs.

The interesting thing is, if I try the form without any pdf mapping, it submits very quickly, and never errors out. But after I have mapped the many fields and signatures, it takes very long, and usually errors out. The form entry can be found in the Formidable tab in admin, but the emails are never sent, and of course the PDF mapping is not performed. Can you please help me?

    The site is, http://theaidplans.us/wp/cha/bill-sharing-diamond-emerald
I can give you admin into it if you want to poke around.

Sure, we are happy to help… If possible, upload a copy of the PDF using this form, complete the login info if we are able to login to take a look, otherwise the login fields are not required.

I have tested every field in the form, and it all maps correctly, unless I’m mistaken. I tested it by leaving the signature boxes blank, or only filling one or two. And I’ve tried leaving every thing else blank, and only filling the signature boxes, and it errors out every time.

We have tested the web form and did not experience any errors. However, there is a long delay when submit is clicked, we recommend using the shortcode in the email message and NOT attaching the PDF to the emails.

We have added the shortcode to the body of both email actions and disabled the attachment function. All is working quick and as expected.

Also, we have installed a plugin called DevTools which allows admin to disable page breaks, fill forms with test data instantly, and cycle through all form styles. Here’s a video about the plugin, you may delete it if you do not find it useful.

Man, you guys rock! This is going to work. I would rather the emails were generated after the fact and sent in the background, so the person opening up the email would not have to wait the appr. 30 seconds to “generate and download” the filled pdf. But if that’s not possible, I will handle these longer forms with many signature boxes with the shortcode, and still use the attachment method for the shorter ones where this isn’t a problem.

I love that DevTools plugin, that thing rocks! Didn’t know that existed. Thanks for installing that!

So, although I’d much rather the office personnel receive an attachment (because it’s much faster on that end to open an attachment than use the link), I think this is an acceptable workaround for these forms.

Is the reason there’s so much delay basically related to the issue of rendering out all those signature box images, and the processing time that takes?

Yes, the merging of signatures (images) will cause a slowdown. You can try lowering the multiplier for signature fields and reducing the size of the PDF, but it will still be slower than using the shortcode links.

Also, you have two email notification actions setup for the form that are sending the PDF attachment, if you reduce the email notifications to one with multiple email addresses in the TO: field, it will cause less of a delay.

Regarding the DevTools plugin, we created the plugin but have only released it here. We will add it to our site as a free download soon.

Okay, and thanks for mentioning that part about multiple recipients vs multiple email actions. I will certainly change that to help speed things up. Thanks again for your awesome support!
